- Best adapted to light haired persons; skin and muscles lax; women and children.
- Red, raw, dirty nosed children.
- Profuse perspiration attends nearly every complaint but does not relieve; may even increase the suffering.
- Sweat: profuse, offensive; does not relieve; may even aggravate suffering.
- Patient is sensitive to every draught and yet agg. by warmth.
- Easily chilled or overheated.
- Diseases occurring in winter.
- Breath and body smell foul.
- Free secretions, thin, slimy, acrid.
- Edema of face, hands and feet with anemia.
- Cold swellings.
- Tenesmus of bladder and rectum.
- Inflamed genitals.
- Stinging pain is very characteristic of Mercury.
- Great weakness and trembling from least exertion.
- Bad effects of fright, mortification, insults, egotism.
- Ailments from sugar, insect stings, vapours of Arsenic or Copper.
- Agg: at night; wet, damp weather; warm days and cold, damp nights; rainy weather; in autumn; lying on right side; perspiring.
- Amel: in moderate temperature; in the morning; whilst lying down and from scratching; better when walking than when lying or sitting.
- Desires: for beer; liquid food; bread and butter; great thirst for beer and cold water; great thirst for ice water though it makes cough worse.
- Aversion: meat; wine; coffee; greasy food; butter.
- Hurried and rapid talking.
- Memory weak; forgets everything; slow in answering questions.
- Weary of life.
- Desire to flee; travel far away.
- Great desire to murder or commit suicide.
- Great restlessness; must change her place constantly; agg. evening and night, beginning at 8 P.M and lasting till morning.
- Filthy in mind and body.
- Congestion to head; head feels as if it would burst with fullness of brain; as if constricted by a band.
- Head symptoms: agg. in open air, from sleeping, eating and drinking; amel. in warm room.
- Vertigo agg. lying on back.
- Face: pale; yellow; earthy colored; puffy under the eyes; swelled cheeks; red and hot; cold; swollen; jaundiced; pale; bloated and sickly.
- Eye symptoms agg. at night and in open air.
- Chronic catarrh of the ear and deafness after measles.
- Ulcers: on the gums; tongue; throat; inside of cheeks; with profuse salivation; irregular in shape; edges surrounded with a dark halo; apt to run together. (Syphilitic ulcers are circular, attack the posterior part of the mouth, throat and have well defined edges, are surrounded with a coppery hue and do not extend from their primary seat.)
- Profuse salivation wets the pillow in sleep.
- Ptyalism; tenacious, soapy, stringy, profuse, fetid, coppery, metallic tasting saliva.
- Inflammation of whole buccal cavity.
- Sore throat: catarrhal, follicular, ulcerative etc. rarely diphtheritic; sharp sticking pains on swallowing.
- Mumps, diphtheria, tonsillitis with profuse offensive saliva; tongue large, flabby with imprint of teeth; mapped tongue.
- Diphtheria: tonsils inflamed, uvula swollen, elongated, constant desire to swallow; membrane thick, gray, shred-like borders adherent or free.
- Swelling of gums; spongy, bleeding gums.
- Toothache: pulsating, tearing, lacerating, shooting into face or ears; agg. in damp weather or evening air; amel rubbing the cheek.
- Teeth dirty, black, carious.
- Sensation and actual looseness of tooth.
- Crowns of teeth decay, roots remain.
- Tongue: large, flabby, shows imprint of teeth; painful with ulcers; red or white.
- Speech difficult due to trembling of mouth and tongue.
- Glandular swellings with or without suppuration, but especially if suppuration be too profuse.
- Right side; mumps, tonsillitis.
- Suppuration of tonsils.
- Inflammation of submaxillary or sublingual glands.
- Cervical glands inflamed, swollen, hard.
- Swelling of inguinal gland, not very painful except on pressure and long walking.
- Catarrh: with much sneezing; fluent, acrid, corrosive, yellow-green, fetid, pus-like discharge; nostrils raw, ulcerated; nasal bones swollen; agg. at night and from damp weather.
- Coryza every autumn.
- Affects lower lobe of right lung, stitches through to back.
- Cough: dry, fatiguing, racking; in tow paroxysms; worse at night and from warmth of bed; with utter inability to lie on right side.
- Cough agg. by ice water.
- Respiration agg. lying on left side but cough is agg. by lying on right side.
- Suppuration of lungs, after hemorrhages of pneumonia.
- Asthma amel. in cold air.
- Soreness of liver with jaundice.
- Liver is congested, enlarged, inflamed; stitches in liver; sensitive; cannot lie on right side.
- Ascites from organic lesions of liver.
- Swelling of inguinal glands.
- Intense thirst although the tongue looks moist and saliva is profuse.
- Taste: sweetish; slimy; salty; bitter; putrid; metallic; flat; fecal.
- Milk and sweets disagree; although desires.
- Coffee and cold drinks agg.
- Dysentery: stools slimy, bloody, with colic and fainting; great tenesmus during and after stool; not amel. by stool; followed by chilliness and a “cannot finish” sensation. The more blood, the better indicated.
- Nocturnal emissions stained with blood.
- Swelling of right testicle.
- Leucorrhea: acrid, burning, itching with rawness; always worse at night.
- Pruritus, agg. from contact of urine which must be washed off.
- Washing with cold water agg. female genital symptoms.
- Itching, swelling and eruption on female genitals.
- Mammae painful, as if they would ulcerate, at every menstrual period; milk in breasts instead of menses.
- Quantity of urine voided is larger than the amount of water drunk; frequent urging to urinate.
- Neck stiff.
- Trembling of extremities, especially hands; paralysis agitans.
- Subacute rheumatism, agg. warmth of bed at night; joint swelling pale, sore; sometimes sharp pains.
- Rheumatic complaints after catching cold, change of weather.
- Rheumatic and arthritic pains agg. at night in warm bed; with profuse sweat but no relief; edema of affected parts, especially feet and ankles.
- Joints swollen, pale or slightly red.
- Gouty, shiny, red swelling.
- In bone diseases, pains worse at night.
- General tendency to suppuration and ulceration.
- Ulcers: superficial and widespread; with whitish gray base, bleeding easily and exuding thin matter; spreading, spongy, readily bleeding and extremely painful; unequal elevations and depressions in floor of ulcer; not amel. by either hot or cold applications.
- Ulcers on legs, agg. by hot or cold applications.
- Mercury ulcers have a gray, lardy, ashy or cheesy base; pus, especially bloody pus.
- Pain of skin eruptions and ulcers are stinging or burning.
- Itching of whole body, especially at night in bed, when getting warm.
- Exostoses on head.
- Tetters on axillae, bends of elbows, inguinal region, hollow of knees.
- Eczema and other types of eruption on hand, agg. every winter.
- Soreness between thighs and genitals.
- Cold swellings; abscesses; slow to suppurate.
- Skin yellow.
- Coppery, red spots; light, red blotches; red spots; eruptions darker on margin and lighter in centre; as the eruptions enlarge, the centre skin becomes healthy.
